2003 Season News
A look at Season 2003 month by month from pre-season to post season. The moans, the groans, the ups, the downs. Especially the downs, for the first time in the clubs long history both teams were relegated in the same season. The ups? The drainage scheme looks like its going ahead and the work done on the junior section is beginning to bear fruit. Look back at 2003 with curiosity but forward with hope for 2004.

2003 Post Season

The clubs AGM was held before a near capacity audience and heard the latest position on many important club matters. The drainage scheme is likely to go ahead in March once the set criteria are met. The meeting heard that fundraising still needs to continue to meet the financial target set for the scheme.20/12/2003

The clubs Annual General Meeting will be held on Thursday 18th December 2003 at 7.30pm. It is hoped that there will be a good attendance of members at what is probably one of the most important meetings in the clubs history.8/12/2003

Check out the Olivers in South Africa famous player pics!! 8/12/2003

The latest junior newsletter is almost due for distribution and should be with all junior members before Christmas. If you would like a copy and are not on the junior list, please contact this site.8/12/2003

The ECB level 1 coaching course run by Forth Valley Region was a great success. Our four would been coaches impressed but now have to wait until courses for child protection and first aid are available to complete their training. 8/12/2003

The clubs thanks are due to Morton Cricket Club for donating cash to the "Save the Arns" appeal from a race at their highly successful Race Night. I hear a great night was had by all, at least all that can remember they were there that night. "A whole new meaning to seeing double(s)".8/12/2003

Congratulations to Alison Ramsay who was presented with the Senior Sports Personality Award for 2003 by Clackmannanshire Sports Council at their Silver Jubilee Dinner in Alloa Town Hall on Friday 21st November. 22/11/2003

The photo gallery has a couple of shots of Dougie Brown smacking the ball about in Hong Kong. Dougie mentioned in his e-mail that he was about to go to do a speaking engagement at Martin Neale's club. Martin asked Dougie to sends his regards to everone at the club. 21/11/2003

The club has five (so far) prospective coaches attempting the ECB level 1 certificate in Bannockburn High School next weekend and the weekend after that. Best of luck to those taking part and to Clarence Parfitt who has to put them through their paces. There are still places available on this course, contact this site for more details.20/11/2003

The Quiz night organised at the club was a great success, the eventual winners being Dollar, runners up The Lucky 'B' snooker club. More funds into the coffers of the drainage appeal, thanks to all who took part. CCCC's Menstrie division proved to be the strongest team, supporting everyone else!19/11/2003

Doesn't time fly? Apologies to the regular readers of the site for the lack of news lately. The season is finished for the players but the club and the committees are still beavering away. Unfortunately not only the committee is still active, some of our hard earned money has had to be spent on repairs to vandalism. Three windows in the club, two of them picture windows, have been broken by vandals. The score box has also been forcibly entered twice in the last month. The proposals for our new drainage scheme is well under way with regular meetings with the consultants a feature of the month. Clackmannan Council have also been active in the drainage area trying to improve the drainage to the pleasure grounds and road, which should also be to our benefit. The finance for the drainage scheme is still under way, we still need £10,000 to complete payment for the scheme and ease the burden on our hard pressed finances. To this end the club are collecting items for a car boot sale which we hope to undertake in November. Any items will be gratefully received, contact the club, this site or the usual suspects to arrange for collection. The club is coming close to a partnership agreement with Clackmannan Council Sports development to provide after school coaching in schools. This initiative is being funded by the New Opportunities Fund and will give the club a year round commitment to after-school coaching in schools for the next three years. In advance of the signing of the agreement coaches, Greg Jones and George Pullan are working in four of the local primary schools, Craigbank, Deerpark, Fishcross and St. Bernadettes from now until Christmas. The senior squad have been hard at work training at Alloa Academy on Tuesday nights since the middle of October, the training is from 6pm until 9pm and carries on to the middle of December. It is hoped to run the usual indoor sessions for all juniors beginning in January 2004. More details later. The juniors had a Halloween Scare in on Saturday 1st November which was well attended by juniors, parents and friends. A great night was had by all with apples being dooked, treacle scones bitten, skulls passed! and musical monsters statued. You had to be there!! There were some fantastic fancy dress costumes, especially among the older juniors, who looked really scary. (No change there then). The long overdue Senior Awards night is due to go ahead sometime in November, once Ash and Gordon sort out the date. There will be a quiz night on Monday November the 10th (the same format as the previous quiz night). If you want to enter a team contact this site or phone David Henderson or David Mudie.2/11/2003

October

Congratulations to ex-pro Morne Van Wyk who has starred with the South African A squad scoring 52, 56 and 118 in the games against Ski Lanka A in South Africa. Today he has been called up to play for South Africa against Pakistan in Pakistan. More information on Cricinfo. A quick hi also to Cindy Grace who I believe has been scoring for the South African A team. Sorry it took so long to get Grahams pictures on the site Cindy, send us an e-mail 5/10/2003

The fund raising for the drainage work has raised just on half the required amount so far. There is still lots to do and cash to find before the proposed starting time of early March 2004. 5/10/2003

Congratulations to popular club star Greg Jones for coming out top in the ESCA Division 1 batting awards with 482 runs. Greg is busy preparing for his ECB level 1 coaching award and then will be coaching in the Clackmannan Primary schools during the late Autumn and winter. 5/10/2003

September

Dates for your diary; Junior Halloween night party on 1st November, fancy dress a "requirement", well you need to get into the spirit!? Senior Awards night, yeah good point, what happened to that? News soon! 29/9/2003

Looks as if the Forth Valley ECB Level 1 coaching course requested will be going ahead this Autumn. Likely dates November 29th & 30th and December 6th & 7th (that's two weekends). Venue and coach tutor still to be announced. Anyone who would like to join the coaching crew contact this site.22/9/2003

Saturday the 20th is Ground fix day. Time for all available keen yins to help tidy the ground for the winter. Tote that net, lift that tractor etc etc. 20/9/2003

Saturday 13th September. The twenty 20 competition organised did not go ahead due to a lack of players in the opposition teams. At short notice a game against Edinburgh 2's was organised. A "smashing" time was had by all especially the tea room window!! 20/9/2003

Sunday 7th September The Over 35 v Under 35's game was played in aid of the "save the Arns fund". In an even game the over 35's won on a technicality. The under 35's captain did not abide by the rules by not giving every player a bowl. Yep! competitive to the nth degree even in a fund raising friendly.20/9/2003

Friday 5th September. A successful junior awards night was held in the club, with food, drink, a quiz and the awards ceremony. Details and pictures later. For a small contribution to the "save the Arns fund" some of the pictures taken could be "suppressed" to protect the guilty, but then again maybe not! 7/8/2003

Wednesday 3rd September. The club has officially signed up for the sportscotland funding which will allow the drainage work to go ahead at the ground. Funding is still an issue and several schemes will be put in place during the winter to improve the clubs finances.5/8/2003

August

Saturday 30th August 1st XI v Leith Franklin Accies. The 1st XI travelled to Leith Links for the final ESCA game of the season. At least the 1st team leave the 1st division with a win. SCORECARD .31/8/2003

Photo Gallery There are some excellent photo's of last weeks 2nd XI game and when they eventually get to the webmaster I'll put them on the site so everyone can see them!31/8/2003

A break-in overnight on Thursday at the clubhouse brought disappointment to the junior members. The junior section has worked hard all season raising money for the youngsters in the club. The refreshments built up for the Awards ceremony on the 5th of September were all stolen, a sad state of affairs, heartbreaking for the enthusiastic team of mums and helpers who have worked so hard . Friday nights benefit game also suffered with the beef burger etc for the after match barbecue being nicked from the fridge. To those responsible for this mean theft "may salmonella be your brother". Sorry Rev, I know, I should turn the other cheek but they would probable nick that as well! 30/8/2003

Matt Frielander, this years club professional, organised a benefit game on Friday evening 26th August. Most of the club players took part and some fine hitting was in evidence. The players adjourned to the bar after their efforts to congratulate one another on their performance and consume some refreshments. An impromptu raffle was held which made £40 for the "Save the Arns" appeal. Well done lads! 30/8/2003

The members meeting concerning the proposed drainage works and discussion concerning the future direction of the club was well attended on Wednesday evening. Ian Taylor led the meeting, with technical detail on the proposals given by David Henderson, Jim Pennycook and Eddie Phillips. The membership raised some interesting points in the question and answer session in which the details of the proposals were discussed. The club still needs to raise £10,000 to fund the project and this was also discussed at length, bringing forward some ideas for future fund raising events. The meeting agreed to support the drainage proposals put forward, once the funding requirements have been met and some other details clarified to the satisfaction of the committee. 30/8/2003

Wednesday 27th for 7.30 at the Arns is the important event of the season. All members are asked to attend so their views can be heard. The proposed drainage works and discussion concerning the future direction of the club make it imperative that all of those concerned with the club should attend.26/8/2003

Thursday 7th August Clackmannan County Cricket Club has been informed by letter that we have been successful in our bid for lottery funding through sportscotland for drainage work at the Arns. The sportscotland press announcement issued today states;

Clackmannan County Cricket Club, Clackmannanshire.

The club would like to express our thanks to everyone who has helped to make this award possible. Club's press release 7/8/2003

Saturday 2nd August The 1st XI journeyed to Edinburgh to play Grange 2nd XI. The result was almost as painful as the constant Grange appealing. SCORECARD. The 2nd XI played at home against St Modans 2nd XI and came away with some much needed points. SCORECARD. 2/8/2003

July

Tuesday 29th July Former Clackmannan player Dougy Brown dropped in on Tuesday's practice night. The weather was wet and 'orrible so no chance of a practice. The few who were present had a chance to talk about cricket past and present and benefit from Dougy's experience and enthusiasm for the game. For those who missed him, why were you not at practice? For all of his friends in the club, he sends his regards.29/7/2003

The clubs two womens internationalists Alison Ramsay and Fee Campbell returned from Holland on Monday 28th July after a "learning experience". Scotland only managed the one win, against Japan, but learned how to play on coconut! It will be full speed ahead for the Kwik Cricket Mums team practices now, then coach Alison? The game will probably be on the 15th August and will include a cream tea, cost £2 for adults £1 for children. 29/7/2003

Sunday 27th July Alloa XI v Dunfermline Carnegie cancelled. Clackmannan could not raise a team.29/7/2003

So much so that there was time for a one day 45 overs game then a Twenty20 game in the evening. The final score in the main game was Desert Club 131 all out, Clackmannan County 132 for 2 SCORECARD. OnThursday the 24th of July Clackmannan County look forward to welcoming the Desert under 21 Touring side from India. This side is made up of some of the most promising young players in the first class Indian league and could contain a future Dravid or Tendulkar. The Clackmannan Select will contain several of the local overseas players and professionals including ex-Clackmannan professional Graham Grace. The game starts at 1.00 pm, come along and join the fun.14/7/2003

Ex Clackmannnan County player plays for South Africa against England in one day final. Not a headline in the press at the weekend but true all the same. Morne Van Wyk (note to Sky television, that's pronounced fike, not vick like the well known cold cure!) the clubs professional last year, played his first game for South Africa, batted number 3 and scored 17. Not a bad start for an international debutante at the home of cricket, third top scorer. The new haircut is different! 14/7/2003

The clubs two Scotland womens players have had a busy weekend Alison Ramsay and Fee Cambell were involved in two games, one against The Royal Navy which they won and another against Durham which they lost. Alison scored 36 against RN and 4 "run out" against Durham, but did not field due to her injured foot. Fee did not bat on Saturday but scored 3 on Sunday and took 1 for 25. Next Saturday they are off to Holland for ten days to the world cup qualifiers.14/7/2003

Sunday 13th July Forth Cricket Union Alloa XI v Gargunnock cancelled Gargunnock can't raise a team.12/7/2003

Big Congratulations to Graham Oliver on his selection for the Scotland Under 12 team to go to Ampleforth at the end of the month. All at the club are delighted that Hammy has been selected, but not surprised since we have seen him bowl and bat in the several senior games he has played this year. Best of luck Graham and keep the saltire flying. 6/7/2003

Sunday 6th July Alloa XI game v Edinburgh 2 cancelled on Saturday night only to be re-organised at 8.30 on Sunday morning. Why do things the easy way when there is a difficult option! SCORECARD 6/7/2003

Saturday 5th July. 1st XI v Watsonians at home. The Clackmannan side fell on their sword again. Clackmannan 140 all out in 42 overs, Watsonians 144 for 8 in 40 overs.SCORECARD 2nd XI game v Mitre cancelled Mitre 25 pts.5/7/2003

Put Thursday the 24th of July in your diary. Clackmannan County is hosting a game against The Desert Youth Club of India. This talented group of players coached by two of Indians One Day international players could be the Rahul Dravids of the future Indian test side. The club hope for good weather and a big crowd for what should be a great game. Watch the web for more details of this event.3/7/2003

Wednesday night. Gargunnock won by the odd run on the last ball of the game. Gargunnock 84 to Clackmannans 83 in 20 overs. A full scorecard should be available, but since none of our team bothered to score their efforts remain unsung in the history of the club.3/7/2003

Wednesday 2nd July The first day of the two day Kwik cricket coaching session went well. With Alison Ramsay as coach the squad were put through their paces on a warm sunny day. 3/7/2003

Congratulations to Alison Ramsay and Fee Campbell on their selection for the Scottish womens team to play in the Netherlands. The girls go to play in the one day international qualifiers for the World Cup to be held in South Africa in January 2005. They have warm up games against the womens Royal Navy team and Durham on the 12th and 13th before flying out for the trophy games from 19th to 28th of July. The opposition in the competition are West Indies, Pakistan, Ireland, Netherlands and Japan. There are two places up for grabs. The club wishes them and the Scotland team well.1/7/2003

The under 13's played Strathearn on Monday 30th in a game resheduled from Friday night. The U13's played with enthusiasm and commitment but went down to a more experienced Strathearn side. The scores were Strathearn 95 Clackmannan 65. Graham Oliver all rounding with 25 runs and 2 wickets, Daniel Love 10 and Dan Smith 8. Star fielder Greig Gallacher also had a noteworthy run out. Our young team are progressing well even although running between the wickets is still a skill to be improved! 1/7/2003

Congratulations to Matthew Booth who at last got a game on Sunday for East District. Matthew has been on the team sheet for East District all season but bad weather and all sorts of problems have prevented the team playing. With Matthews help East District beat South District by six wickets, more good experience under the belt Matthew. 1/7/2003

June

Saturday 28th June The lst XI game v Leith Franklin Accies was cancelled. Even an attempt to move the game to Edinburgh was doomed to failure. Another weekend without cricket for the club. 28/6/2003

Thursday 26th June Saturdays 2nd XI game has been cancelled. Penicuik can't raise a team. Sundays game against Dunfermline Carnegie is also cancelled for the same reason. Anyone out there want a game this Sunday we could have a ground available all we need is some opposition, contact this site. 26/6/2003

Over the last few weeks some of the clubs players have been called up for East District duty. Matthew Booth for the under17's, except the two games he was to play in were cancelled. Neil Ramsay and Zahid Hussain for the under 19's, but their game against South was cancelled. Ash Rasul for the senior East District team and surprise, surprise, the game was cancelled. Graham Oliver has also been for a Scotland Under 12 trial and if there is any justice he should be hearing good news soon. 24/6/2003

The winners of the Ronald Cunningham Kwik Cricket Quaich, Strathdevon Primary, should have attended the Scottish finals of the competition on Tuesday 24th June but they were at school camp. Runners up Fishcross Primary took their place and, while up against stiff opposition, played well and were a credit to their school and our club.24/6/2003

Sunday 22nd June The Kwik Cricketers played at Stirling in the John Player Trophy competition and had an enjoyable day they won one game and lost two to more experienced opposition. The Alloa XI played Stirling in the Forth Cricket Union league at the Arns. The result a win for the Alloa XI. SCORECARD Wow! Two games on the Arns in a weekend and both on grass. 22/6/2003

Saturday 21st June At last a 1st XI game at home, not however a win. The SCORECARD for Clackmannan v Edinburgh is only a click away. The 2nd XI travelled to Falkland to play Falkland 3's and lost. SCORECARD.22/6/2003

Wednesday 18th For a change the Arns was playable the Arns XI team was keen to go but the opposition? Didn't turn up, didn't answer the messages or calls, didn't endeer themselves to either players or especially the fixture secretary (who knows a lot of sweary words!) 22/6/2003

Sunday 15th June The 1st XI v Irvine was transferred to Irvine due to the state of the home outfield. The result was a win for Irvine and the exit for Clackmannan County from the SCU Trophy. SCORECARD. The Forth Cricket Union Alloa XI game against Falkland also at home was cancelled to play the more important SCL Trophy game. The irony is that the FCU game wouldn't have gone ahead due to the state of the pitch but we lose the points anyway. The problems created by the state of the clubs ground are many and varied. 15/6/2003

East district Under 19's Neil Ramsay and Zahid Hussain were due to play against South on Sunday but South could not raise a team (yet again). Still every cloud has a silver lining the U19's were drafted into the 1st XI for the Irvine game. 15/6/2003

Saturday 14th June 1st XI v Heriots 2 Clackmannan 138 all out Heriots 137 for 6 Heriots 25 pts Clackmannan 5. SCORECARD to follow. 2nd XI v Largo at Largo Clackmannan 65 all out, Largo 66 for 2. SCORECARD. 15/6/2003

The state of the Arns is once again the main talking point at the club. Its now more than a year since the 1st XI have played a match on our ground. This weeks 1st XI game against Heriots 2 has had to be moved the Gargunnock because the Arns is too soft to play on. The damage was done by a particularly stormy pre-lunch spell of rain on Thursday. A great deal of time and effort is being expended in an attempt to make the ground playable but it seems to be one step forward one step back. The club would like to thank Gargunnock Cricket Club for the use of their ground. Its nice to have friends when things are not going well.14/6/2003

Ronald Cunningham Kwik Cricker Tournement The annual Primary Schools kwik cricket tournament was held at the Park school after heavy rain on Thursday morning made the Arns unplayable. The eight teams scheduled to take part was reduced to six, the eventual winners being Strathdevon, Dollar. More details on the Junior kwik cricket page when available.13/6/2003

Sunday 8th June 1st XI game against Irvine in SCU Trophy, cancelled due to waterlogged pitch. Replay Sunday 15th June. 8/6/2003

Saturday 7th June 2nd XI v Marchmont 2 The 2nd XI had the worst of the draw againsy Marchmont 2'. On a soft outfield the team didn't put enough runs on the board, signs of the lack of games affecting performmance were evident. SCORECARD 14/6/2003

A good week for the juniors. The under 17's went to Freuchie on Wednesday evening and tied the game in an exciting final few overs. the U17's won by virtue of the number of wickets fallen. The Kwik cricketers played at Dollar on Wednesday night in the Forth Valley Kwik Cricket league. Since the Arns was unplayable Dollar generously agreed that the games could be played on the Academy grounds. The Clackmannan Kwikers won one game and lost one. On Friday evening the under 13 team played Dunfermline at the Arns. In a well matched contest the Clackmannan side came out on top with three overs to play.7/6/2003

1st June Alloa XI V Dalgety Bay at Dalgety Bay. Clackmannan County batted first and made 180 for 7. In reply Dalgety Bay were 68 all out (there was only nine players) SCORECARD 2/6/2003

May

Saturday30th May Yet again another game at the Arns cancelled due to the weather and the state of the pitch. The 1st XI game against Livingston the latest victim. The 2nd XI journeyed to Crieff for a friendly fixture and came away with a win in a twelve a side game! 2nd XI 142 for 8, Crieff 114 for 11. SCORECARD .31/5/2003

Sunday 25th May The Counties Cup game against West Lothian was won by Clackmannan. Clackmannan 138 all out, West Lothian 113 all out. SCORECARD 25/5/2003

Saturday 24th May 2nd XI game v St Modans at Bluebellwood Park cancelled. (same monsoon weather as the Arns)24/5/2003 1st XI game v Grange 2 was transferred to Edinburgh midweek (due to the work to be done on the Arns, see us see forward planning!!). Our thanks to Grange for their help in re-organising the fixture and providing the teas. Game Abandoned without a ball being bowled.24/5/2003

The attempt to remove the surface water from the Arns to allow at least some games to be played had to be abandoned on Friday due to the monsoon style rain and "the tractor breaking down"! Its beginning to look like last year all over again, except for the tractor, the importance of the success of our Sportscotland drainage application grows more crucial by the day. 23/5/2003

Good to see last years Clackmannan County professional Morne Van Wyk will arrive in England on June 16 as a member of the South Africa squad who play in the one-day NatWest Series with England and Zimbabwe. The games will be on Channel 4 so that gives us a chance to at least see him on TV. Congratulations Morne, hope it doesn't rain. 20/5/2003

Sunday 18th May. The Counties Cup game v Fifeshire did go ahead but was abandoned after tea. Clackmannan batted first and scored 124 all out in 40 overs.(M Freidlander 66, G Jones 35, A D Sharp 5 for 30 in 10 overs, M Beg 3 for 27 of 8). After an excellent tea the captains could not agree about the safety of the pitch, which had suffered from a spell of heavy rain late in the first innings. What a bunch of wimps. No, probably at this stage in the season when an injury to any of the players on either side could put them out for a while, it was probably a sensible decision not to continue. However its always a pity when a game is undecided in this way.18/5/2003

Saturday 17th May 2nd XI game v Kirk Brae cancelled due to weather and pitch conditions. Even more bad news the 1st XI endeavoured to lose to first division new boys Cramond. Crammond made 108 for 6 Clackmannan were all out for 87. SCORECARD17/5/2003

Saturday10th May 1st XI playing at Penicuik beat Penicuik 2nd XI. Clackmannan batted first and made 137 (G Oliver 37 A Rasul 33, A Fraser 7 for 49). Penicuik could not meet the total and were all out for 81 (F Chaudhry 5 for 17 M Freidlander 4 for 43) SCORECARD. 2nd XI beat SMRH. 4 Clackmannan fielded first and had SMRH all out for 86. Clackmannans reply was 87 for 5. SCORECARD

Masterton Trophy. Clackmannan County made a quick exit from this competition on Wednesday night. A decision to bat on a sticky wicket came unstuck with the County team struggling to 26 all out. Heriots made the 27 required without loss. The gory details to follow, in the SCORECARD. 7/5/2003

Here we go again! This weekends games, 1st XI v Fauldhouse, 2nds v Old Contemptibles and Alloa XI v Stehousemuir (on Sunday) all cancelled due to the weather and the state of the pitches. 2/5/2003

Sunday 27th April Black armbands for the Counties Cup game against Stirling. Clackmannan capitulated in 25 overs all out for 55 runs. Despite a rain break during their innings the side were back in the pavilion for tea by 3.20pm. The game was over by 4.30. John Taylor and Saj Ali put a dispirited Alloa side out of their misery with some fine lofted hitting. SCORECARD such as it is!27/4/2003

Saturday 26th April the 1st XI had a good win at Craiglockhart achieving the maximum 25 pts against Watsonian 2's. Watsonians batted first and were all out for 122 (D Anderson 24, F Chaudhry 4 for 16 off 8 overs and M Javed 4 for 56 off 12.4 overs.) Clackmannan passed that total for the loss of four wickets. (G Jones 89 no). SCORECARD. 27/4/2003

After the rain on Friday the 2nd XI game against Mitre was played on the artificial wicket at the Arns. Clackmannan batting first scored 95 all out in 45 overs (Graham Bayes 44 and Neil Tranter 14, Gerry Dodson 4 for 24). Even on the slow rain affected outfield this score always looked vulnerable. This it proved to be, as the outfield dried out Mitre overtook the Clackmannan score in over 43 with three wickets in hand. Final score Mitre 96 for 7 (Douglas Kemp 26, Paul Melon 15 no, Gerry Dodson 14 no). Best for Clackmannan, Graham Bayes 4 for 17 in 13 overs. Honourable mention to young Graham Oliver who took 1 for 9 in 6 overs, not bad for a ten year old spinner. SCORECARD 26/4/2003.

Sunday 20th April. On a sunny, windy and absolutely Baltic day at Doune Castle Policies the Alloa XI beat Doune CC in a friendly, good natured but competitive game. Alloa XI 207 for 9, Doune 170 all out. SCORECARD 21/4/2003

Saturday 19th April. At tea Dunfermline 272 for 5 in 50 overs, Clackmannan's reply 153 all out in 23!! overs. More details later, if I ever get them Greig!!

Not a good start to the season. The 2nd team game against Edinburgh 2nds had to be cancelled due to a lack of players. The first team game against Dunfermine goes ahead with a very young but enthusiastic side. This game introduces this years professional Matthew Friedlander and Greg Jones to the side. 19/4/2003

The first practice game of the season was cancelled because of the state of the ground. Not because of rain but because the water board pipe at the road end of the ground was leaking. The Water Board repaired the damage and sprayed the area with disinfectant. Hendo took advantage of this "little problem" to put moss killer on the square. The ground works day on Saturday the 12th, for general tidying up, painting, putting up the nets etc was a limited success. Thanks to the few who came along to lend their support. 19/4/2003

Latest on the ground, contrary to city gossip, we are still here. The ground is recovering slowly from last years excesses, mainly due to the exceptional dry spell over the last six weeks. That something major is required in the ground drainage is still very obvious but, luck with the weather and hard work should turn out a ground that is as playable as most. 6/4/2003

Congatulations to Clackmannan's U15 juniors who returned to the Fife cricket indoor event at Lochgelly High School and won the trophy. This was an excellent effort by the team, who were undefeated in the competition. Winning was a new experience for this young squad and it was truly a well deserved result. It was great to see a competition played in such good spirit by all the players, and also to see the tangible improvement in all aspects of their game by the teams who took part. Well done lads, first trophy of the season, something for the seniors to emulate.16/3/2003

On the publicity front, bearing in mind that any pulicity is good publicity, the club features in the latest addition of the Scottish Cricketer. The picture of gloom however is not quite as bad (we hope) as painted in the article by Mike Stanger and we will try our best to play our fixtures one way or another this year. Still thanks for the thought Mike and we intend, if the worst comes to the worst, to go down fighting. Details of how to obtain a copy of the Scottish Cricketer can be obtained from Scottish Cricket Ltd. By the way gentlemen why no note on page 15 of who organises womens cricket in Scotland? 8/2/2003

Thanks to Rob Outram, also in the Scottish Cricketer, for the kind words about the Clackmannan web site, seven out of ten, no bad for a club wi, a leaky pitch, short o' players and no much money. Rob is the webmaster for the vibrant, highly successful, not to say sometimes controversial Rampant Lion website. 8/2/2003

The embryo fixture card is on the site but there are several changes still to be made and games to organise so take the details with a pinch of salt. There is a strong rumour that the Mystic & Magicians will not be touring Scotland this year after their multi-location swimming lessons on last years outing. Sorry that you won't be coming to Scotland this year lads but we can fully understand why. I mean even the indoor game was cancelled because of the weather. 22/1/2003

For changes to the forthcoming social events and prizewinners for the Christmas raffle check out the social page. (5/1/2003)

The latest on the ground drainage is that prices for the drainage work are in hand and that an application for financial support has been submitted to SportsScotland. Our future is, at the moment, in the hands of others, which is not a pleasant position to be in. The club would like to thank those people who have expressed their concern and those who have contributed to the Save The Arns Fund so far, but we still have a long way to go. Members will shortly receive a newsletter from the club detailing the current position. This will be a test for our new database, so if you don't get a newsletter, please send an e-mail to this site and "it will be sorted"! A special thank you to Clackmannan Council who have provided practical and financial help in our time of need. (5/1/2003)
