2005 Post Season

Autumn news will appear here (or maybe not?)

31st August The Arns XI played Westquarter at the Arns in an evening game, which at this time of year is in itself a triumph of hope over experience. To quote the Apprentice fixture secretary the light gets dark earlier at this time of the year!! SCORECARD 3/9/2005

Saturday 27th August The 1st XI traveledl to Falkland to play Falkland 2's SCORECARD. The 2nd string played Holy Cross 3's SCORECARD at Doune. The last game at Doune and the last game of the season for both teams. Sundays game against Fauldhouse Victoria in the Forth Cricket Union has been cancelled, Clackmannan can't raise a team. Hopefully we will not need to write that again next year. 28/8/2005

First game back on the Arns Wednesday 24th August the Arns XI v Gargunnock. A good game featuring the youngsters on both sides. On the artificial, but the outfield played better than expected, despite the lumps, report and SCORECARD by Greig Taylor (unabridged, so blame him!!)26/8/2005

Not a good week for things going wrong, a bunch of wee hoodies throwing stones at the score box have damaged two of the mechanical number boxes. These things cost £120 each, little *******. Contractors lorries working on resurfacing the main road, "turning on the relaid driveway" Argh! damaged part of the drive. Thanks to TARMAC for the quick repair to the damage with no fuss, how unusual in this modern world. Thanks Stewart. 26/8/2005

The latest on the drainage works after a visit from STRI, the sports ground specialists, is that the ground is not to be rolled but sanded and chain? harrowed. Oops! we nearly got that one wrong. 26/8/2005

Saturday 20th August The 1st XI played Marchmont at Doune SCORECARD. The 2nd XI against Dunbar unfortunately had to be cancelled due to a lack of players. By Friday evening 22 players had indicated that they were unable to play on Saturday. The Alloa XI Sunday game against Livingston also had to be cancelled for the same reason. A combination of a poor playing season and the disruption experience by not playing on our home ground the main factors in the clubs inability the fulfil our fixtures. The club would like to apologise to all of the clubs who have been let down this year in what to use a famous quote has been our Annus Horribilis. (and no guys that doesn't mean a horrible a**e although.........) 21/8/2005

Alison Ramsay has spent the week in Wales with the Scotland Womens squad playing in the ICC European competition. She contrived to get heat stroke in the third game, "in Wales"!! against England but was substitute fielder two days later against Wales!! Speachless, for the moment yes, but the storm is coming!!

Sunday 14th August The game against Gargunnock was cancelled since we could not put enough players or cars on the road take fulfil the fixture. End of a bad season blues! 14/8/2005

Clackmannan won the Anstruther and Gunn Trophy. 13/8/20054

Problems with the unevenness of the outfield are still making it unsafe to play on the Arns. A little remedial work has been done on two edges of the square, but the planned vibratory roll will not now take place. The final hope for the Warwickshire game is that the rains will come allowing the ground to soften so some of the worst bumps can be rolled out. 11/8/2005.

Saturday August 6th The 1st XI played Leith Franklin Beige etc. at The Grazings Doune SCORECARD. The 2nd XI travelled to the dreaded Meadows in Edinburgh to play Cask & Barrel SCORECARD 6/8/2005

A meeting on the outfield drainage re-instatement on Wednesday agreed to try several strategies to flatted the outfield and level the area round the square. The warm dry weather has set back the work to roll out the lumps. 21/7/2005

Saturday 16th July The 1st team are at home in Doune to Grange 3.SCORECARD The 2nd team travel to Fauldhouse to play Fauldhouse Victoria 2 SCORECARD. Fauldhouse 238 for 4 after 45 overs 16/7/2005

Sunday 19th June The Alloa XI game against Livingston had to be cancelled due to a shortage of transport to take the young team away! Blair Campbell took part in the Central District under 12 trial in Perth and did well. Alison Ramsay travelled south to Durham with the Scotland Womens team. The women beat Durham, Durham 208 for 9 Scotland 211 for 5. Ali took 1 for 22 and scored 30. The kwik cricketers travelled to Stirling to play in the John Player Trophy but were unsuccessful against much stronger teams. What is the point in playing hard ball experienced kids in kwik cricket competitions? Isn't it called win at all costs?25/6/2005

Saturday 18th June The 1st XI played Marchmont in Edinburgh and were well beaten. No SCORECARD, the ones left the book at Marchmont, Duuhh! The second team game against Dunbar at Doune was cancelled because(sigh!) shortage of 1st team players led to half the 2nd team being "promoted" to the ones and the replacement juniors were just too young to play against an experience all senior team.25/6/2005

The Arns XI development squad lost heavily to Westquarter away from home on Wednesday 8th June. Experience for our juniors on their treck from junior to senior cricket, pity not all players understand (or have forgotten) this necessary step for the youngsters.11/6/2005

As yet no ground work has been possible on either the Arns or Doune's ground "the Policies" due to the weather. The first round of practice games at The Policies in two weeks is going to need a lot of luck, good weather and hard graft by the ground staff if the games are to go ahead. 9/4/2005

January

The strong winds over the past week have flattened one of the sight screens, extensively damaged another and caused panels to come adrift on the other two. No trees down, as yet, at the railway end and no place for the ducks to swim, unlike previous closed seasons. 20/1/2005

The Junior indoor practice which has been held in Alloa Academy Games Hall on Tuesday nights from January till late March every year for the last seven years, may not go ahead. Changes in the Clackmannanshire Council booking procedures have left the club out in the cold. Last minute negotiations are being held to attempt to allow the cricket club the use of the only cricket nets in the authority. Ironic that it was the cricket club who financed the nets installed in the school. Happy New Year!! 4/1/2005

The first committee meeting of the year is at the Arns on Monday 10th January 2005 at 7.15pm. 4/1/2005
