| Midweek 20/20 game at
the Arns ......................Result AlloaXI lost to Dollar C C
Dollar were the visitors at the Arns on Wednesday 13th June in a 20
over contest. This was the Alloa XI’s third 20/20 match of the
season and they were still looking for their first victory after closely
fought games against Fauldhouse and Stenhousemuir.
Dollar won the toss and elected to bat. Alloa opened the bowling with Nick Bryant-Nichols
and Ross Archibald. It wasn’t the best of starts for Alloa, the Dollar
openers played their shots from the outset and quickly got runs on the board.
Bryant-Nichols in particularly didn’t have a good day at the office. Greig
Taylor dropped an edge off Bryant-Nichols bowling in the 3rd over, then, in his
next over, the same batsmen gave Bryant-Nichols a difficult caught and
bowled chance, which he put down. In the process the bowler injured his hand
and had to leave the field. Lucky white heather, Nick! Alan Oliver came
on as a substitute fielder.
Graham Oliver in his first over got the breakthrough Alloa needed, having Buchan-Smith
caught behind by Taylor. Noor Jhangir replaced Archibald and bowled 3 overs,
0 wickets for 40 runs. Statistics don’t always tell the full story, in
these 3 Jhangir overs, Alloa dropped four catches.
With Dollar scoring at 10 an over, Scott Malcolmson brought himself on to bowl
in tandem with Matthew Booth. Booth, the most economical of all the bowlers,
bowled 4 overs for 20 runs, while the skipper picked up 2 wickets at the other
end. Taylor took a stumping to augment his excellent catch behind, a fairly successful
day for his first game keeping wicket in some time.
Dollar finished with 188 after the 20 overs with ex Clackmannan County player
Graeme Buick ending with 26 not out.
Alloa started their reply in fine fashion with Graham Oliver driving the first
ball of innings past the bowler for 4. When Oliver was dismissed, bowled for
13 in the 4TH over Alloa were on the course for an unlikely victory. Alamgir
was the next batsmen in and he continued his excellent start to season. He took
the attack to the bowlers scoring a quick fire 41. Even the loss of wickets at
the other end couldn’t stop his onslaught. Alamgirs dismissal bowled by
Ben Henderson left two new batsmen at the crease in Malcolmson and Taylor. Alloa
started to gradually fall behind the run rate and victory slipped away. Once
Taylor was out, Dow and Archibald went quickly for not a lot. Campbell
joined Malcolmson at the crease and scored a quick single off the second last
ball of the game. This was Campbells first run for the club in his
second senior game, hopefully there will be many more.. Malcolmson finished on
37 not out and Alloa on 155.
A tremendous effort from a young and inexperienced Alloa team against an
experienced Dollar team. This was a good game, played in excellent spirit by
both sides. Credit to Dollar when after Bryant-Nichols went off injured while
bowling, allowed (12th man replacement) Alan Oliver to bat for his side.
