Report by Dan Smith

On Saturday, Clackmannan kept their dreams of promotion alive with a convincing win over Holy Cross 2s.
After winning the toss skipper Graeme Anderson opted to bat first, however, Clackmannan got off to the worst possible start, losing Gordon Oliver in the first over for 0. Craig Black then joined Alan Oliver, and both batsmen batted confidently, before Black was dismissed for 19 in the 15th over. Graeme Anderson then fell cheaply, leaving Clackmannan looking precarious on 41 for 3. Alan Oliver was then bowled for a determined 13 in the 19th over. This brought Greg Jones to the crease, and he, along with Ash Rasul, began to take the game away from the Holy Cross bowlers. The pair put 116, before Rasul was caught at first slip for 43. Jones was then caught at long off for a hard hitting 66. Clackmannan then suffered a mini collapse, losing Simon McDowell and Dan Smith without troubling the scorers. Matthew Booth then supported the well set batsman Paul Hooper, before Booth was adjudged LBW for 2. Will Kay and Paul Hooper put on 13 before Kay was dismissed in the last over, leaving Hooper stranded on 16 not out.  Clackmannan posting a competitive score of 196.
The Holy Cross openers started slowly, taking 3 overs to get off the mark, and the Clackmannan fielders sensed a breakthrough was imminent. That breakthrough came in the fifth over, with Matthew Booth picking up the first wicket due to a sharp stumping by Paul Hooper. After 9 overs Greg Jones was brought on to bowl, and picked up a wicket in his first over. Booth and Jones then terrorized the Holy Cross middle order, with the two of them taking the wickets of all of the Holy Cross top seven. After a superb run out by Simon McDowell, Rasul took the penultimate wicket and Anderson picked up the last wicket with his first ball. Clackmannan bowling out Holy Cross for 93, winning comfortably by 103 runs.
