Clackmannan Crush League Leaders
By Dan Smith

After last weeks disappointing loss Clackmannan were eager to get back to winning ways against Largo 2s.

Clackmannan captain Graeme Anderson won the toss and elected to bat first. Clackmannan opening pair of Gordon and Alan Oliver batted admirably, putting on 53 for the first wicket in challenging conditions before Alan Oliver was caught by mid off for 12. Clackmannan then suffered a mini collapse with Craig Black and then Graeme Anderson being dismissed cheaply, for 3 and 0 respectively. Paul Hooper then came to the crease and steadied the ship, supporting the senior batsman Gordon Oliver. Oliver constructed a well tempered innings to reach his fifty before being run out for 56. Hooper departed soon after for 20, leaving Clackmannan sitting precariously on 105 for 5. However, Noor Jhangir and Dan Smith took the game away from the Largo bowlers with a partnership of 58, before Jhangir was caught after scoring an agressive 35. Smith departed soon after for 29, trying to increase the run rate. Simon McDowell quickly followed, leaving Richard Passe and Matthew Booth to bat out the rest of the overs, with Passe finishing on 11 not out, and Booth 3 not out. Clackmannan finished on 198 for 8.

Clackmannan opened the bowling with Craig Black and Matthew Booth. Both openers bowled aggressively, with the result that the Largo opening batsmen failed to score a run in the first four overs. This pressure began to tell as two wickets fell in quick succession, Braid stumped by Paul Hooper off the bowling of Booth, and Touze bowled by Black. The two new batsmen Bentley and Galloway spent time at the crease, defending stubbornly, before Bentley was dismissed edging a Booth outswinger to wicket keeper Paul Hooper. Dan Smith and Alan Oliver were then brought on to bowl with Largo on 33 for 3. The change of bowlers brought a breakthrough straight away, with Galloway being caught and bowled by Dan Smith. Smith then picked up another two quick wickets, Yousaf being adjudged LBW and Fleming being dismissed by an outstanding catch from star fielder Graham Fraser. Craig Black was then brought back on to bowl, and picked up the wicket of Largo captain Dave Seath. Noor Jhangir then bowled the dangerous Rintoul for 28, and Black removed Nairn to close the Largo innings. Largo 76 all out. The pick of the bowlers were Craig Black 3-19, Dan Smith 3-15 and Matthew Booth 2-24.

An excellent victory for Clackmannan who will try to continue this form into next weeks game in Edinburgh against Kirk Brae.
