By Scott Malcolmson
On a windy but pleasant day Clackmannan travelled
to McKane Park in Dunfermline to take on a mixture of Dunfermline’s
2ND and 3rd team.
Clackmannans pre match tactics meeting was to have a bat first and
after winning the toss duly decided to insert their hosts on a decent
wicket. Clackmannan opened the bowling with last seasons trusted opening
bowling pair of N Ramsay and A Band. It didn’t take long for the first chance to come after Hynds edged
Ramsay in the 1st over. Malcolmson couldn’t take the catch at gully and
Hynds went on to make 27 in a good opening partnership with wicketkeeper Davidson.
Alamgir replaced Band and Mitchell replaced Ramsay. It was Mitchell that got
the breakthrough bowling Davidson. At this point Dunfermline were in control
after a solid opening partnership.
The game swung back in Clackmannan favor when Cox took 3 wickets in 3 overs ripping
through the middle order of Dunfermline. A Oliver contained the hosts with a
great spell of spin bowling and was rewarded with a wicket. Just as it looked
like Dunfermline were going to push on for a big score the captain turned to
youngster Alamgir and he repaid his faith with 3 wickets. Clackmannan wrapped
up the innings when A Ramsay stumped Miller off the bowling of Oliver in the
final over. Dunfermline posted 151 all out.
Clackmannan although missing a few regular batsmen from last season were confident
of chasing this target for a morale boosting victory over opponents 3 divisions
higher in the league. Clackmannan didn’t get the start they wished for
with Oliver, Cox and Mitchell all being dismissed for nought and the score on
2-3 after 4 overs. Alamgir was next in and was next out after facing 2 balls
was bowled. This brought the skipper to the wicket and along with N Ramsay put
on 33 for the next wicket before Malcolmson was bowled. Band then helped Ramsay
put on a 35 run partnership before he was given out lbw. The tail helped N Ramsay
get his 50 before he was out lbw. A Ramsay playing her first game for the club
in 3 years put on 12 before going for big shot and getting caught on the point
boundary.
Overall this was a good effort from Clackmannan who fell 43 runs short of victory
against a Dunfermline team who fielded eight second team players.
Good performances all round especially from youngters Callum and Morven Ross
who acquitted themselves well in the field.
