On another glorious Saturday afternoon Clackmannan traveled to Peebles
full of confidence after six straight wins. Peebles won their first coin
toss of the season and inserted Clackmannan on a bowling friendly wicket.
Clackmannan pre-match confidence soon evaporated after a fine start by
Peebles youngsters Scott Caddick and Kieran Ramsay left Clackmannan on
18 for 4. Caddick had Dan Smith bowled for 10 and Alan Oliver 0. While
at the other end Ramsay had Neil Ramsay and Scott Malcolmson both caught
for 2 and 4 respectively.
Ally Band was next out bowled for 8 and Alison Ramsay soon followed caught
off the bowling of Burns for 1. Peebles now full of confidence had Clackmannan
64-6. Gordon Oliver and Greig Taylor came in and with the pressure on,
batted superbly to drag Clackmannan back into the game. G Oliver soon
passed 50. Taylor not to be outdone, in the 39th over, hit a 6 to bring
up his 50 and along with Oliver took Clackmannan to 182 off the allocated
overs. Oliver finishing on 84 not out and Taylor 52 not out.
After a fine tea Peebles got off to a good start with Clackmannans opening
bowlers, Neil Ramsay and Ally Band were unable to get a breakthrough.
Step forward Blair Campbell who in his first game of the season got the
first breakthrough removing opener Wolfe-Murray lbw for 8. The old saying
one brings two certainly was true on this day as no sooner had Clackmannan
got their first wicket then some great fielding by Ally Band led to Taylor
running out Waddel for 3. muktar Ahmed replaced Ramsay and Clackmannan
started picking up wickets. A great spell of bowling by Ahmed put Clackmannan
in a good position. Ahmed finished on 5 for 7 off 8 overs. This backed
up by Blair Campbell’s 1 for 5 off 5 overs took the game away from
Peebles. Alan Oliver replaced Campbell and his bowling was rewarded
with a wicket, Burns out lbw for 1. With Alison Ramsay and Callum Lyons
unable to finish Peebles off the skipper brought himself on and wrapped
up the game picking up 2 wickets off 2.1 overs for a victory by 117 runs.
This was a terrific game that was played the way cricket is supposed
to be played. Thanks to Peebles for an enjoyable game of cricket. This
victory was only possible after a terrific 7th wicket unbeaten partnership
of 118 by G Oliver and G Taylor.
