Friday 4th July saw the U-15 side play hosts to Dunfermline U-15’s. Clackmannan captain Charlie McNish lost the toss and were put in to bat on what looked to be a quick outfield. Clackmannan opened the batting with McNish and Andrew Lamb. Clackmannan got off to a good start with the score already on 41 off 7 overs. However this strong partnership was soon broken as McNish was adjudged LBW for a well played 18. Next man in was Blair Campbell who quickly got off the mark with a well timed sweep shot the raced to the boundary on the quick outfield. McNish was soon back in, but only as a runner for Lamb as he had twisted his knee. Both Lamb and Campbell built a steady partnership but Lamb could not continue, and retired (hurt) for a well fought 12. Next batsman in was U-13 player Liam Shields, but he survived one ball before he was bowled by Lucas. Scott King was next in to bat and also quickly got off the mark with a lofted on drive that went for four runs. Scott batted well for 25 before he was caught off the bowling of Timmins. Next in was Callum Ross who helped Campbell to his well earned retirement of 31 not out. The next three batsmen added only 5 between them to the score before all getting out cheaply. Off their allotted 20 overs Clackmannan U-15’s scored an impressive 139 for 6 wkts, with Campbell’s 31* being the batting performance for the local side and Tanton’s 2 for 8 being Dunfermline’s bowling performance of the night.
Clackmannan then opened with usual seamers Blair Campbell and Charlie McNish. Both openers were unlucky, with a dropped chance off the first ball of Dunfermline’s innings and a drop at point off McNish’s bowling. Campbell was replaced by Ewan Maclean and immediately got the breakthrough by getting Petrie caught by Gordon McPhail for 7. Aftab Afzal replaced McNish and also struck in his first over as Cook was caught at point by MacLean for 8. MacLean got his second wicket of the night as wicketkeeper Lamb took a catch to dismiss Timmins for 3. Lucas came to the crease and helped Penman to his well earned retirement of 33. Lucas soon left for 8 as he was caught off the bowling of King. The next batsmen survived a few balls before they were both out to McPhail’s impressive spell of 2 for 2. Off the allotted 20 overs Dunfermline scored a well fought 85 for 6. Clackmannan won by 54 runs.
