Date 9/5/2009 Venue Dunbar Result Abandoned Weather 'orrible

By Scott Malcolmson

When Clackmannan County 2nd eleven met at the Arns for departure it was raining, when they crossed the Clackmannanshire Bridge it was raining. In Edinburgh it was raining, but in Dunbar miraculously, the sun was shining, although there was a cold stiff breeze.
To the game, Clackmannan won the toss as per usual and elected to field. With regular opening bowler Campbell missing, at a birthday party, the skipper turned to "born again" opening bowler Alistair Band to partner Neil Ramsay.
The seconds got off to a solid start with Band bowling 2 maidens at the start of his spell and Ramsay coming close with Callow almost chopping on and Alamgir dropping the easiest of chances at square leg. Neil Ramsay bowled 5 overs for a measly 8 runs. Alistair Band, after 3 over's went for 1 run, a wide down leg side. With Band struggling to grip a ball, which  had become wet and Ramsay struggling with his run up in the slippery conditions, Clackmannan changed the openers.
Newcomer Rik Odendal replaced Band and had a great shout for lbw in his first over, which was turned down. Alison Ramsay replaced Neil, but she struggled in the wet conditions. She shortened her run up; all this achieved was a wide and a boundary from Wanless. With the third ball Wanless left a wideish delivery. The umpire at the bowlers end commented “that’s your last freebie”. Alison returned to her normal run up mark fired up, with the next ball Wanless was caught at 2nd slip by Richard Passe. Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned.
With the rain now belting it down, after Odendall’s second over went for three runs,  both teams came off, although Dunbar were reluctant at this stage. After an early tea the game was abandoned with the rain pouring it down.
Best for Clackmannan were the bowlers, who coped superbly well in difficult conditions. Well done to Alison who picked up Clackmannan solitary wicket. Hopefully this will have helped her get over last weeks defeat on international duty. Aye the Scottish Wildcats threw away one and won won and a no very happy Adam Park Elliott !!!!
Next for Clackmannan is a home tie versus SMRH 3s at the Arns on Saturday at 1.30pm.
