On a windy and overcast afternoon Clackmannan Thirds ‘breezed’ to
victory at Kinross House over Kinross CC Second XI in their Strathmore & Perthshire
league game on Sunday.
Winning the toss, Clackmannan skipper Noor Jahangir elected to bat but with
only five runs on the board number two batsman, Aurenzeb Alamgir, was
caught behind.
Opening batsman, and man of the match, Keith Hefer soon started to push
the run rate on putting on a partnership of 29 with Ross Archibald until
the latter was caught out LBW by opening bowler Mitchell.
Hefer was then joined at the crease by captain Jahangir and the runs
were coming thick and fast as both batsmen got their ‘eye in’ and
found the boundary. The partnership ended when Jahangir was bowled after
making a fine 35 runs.
Young Jamie McCann then joined Heffer at the crease and with some superb
running the score pushed onto 94 before McCann was bowled for 45; a fine
innings by the youngster and his highest score for the club so far. Hefer
was in fine form punishing the Kinross bowling at every turn before
he was clean bowled after making a heroic score of 94.
Once the top order batsmen had gone the wickets fell steadily with Clackmannan
finishing on a highly respectable 237 runs with Steve Jelfs and Calum
Ross finishing the innings at 8 and 0 not out respectively.
Clackmannan quickly stamped their authority on the game claiming two
quick wickets with just sixteen runs on the board; however opener Sale
proved a hard nut to crack hitting the bowling for a well earned 34 before
being clean bowled by Heffer.
Thanks to some great bowling by Hefer, gaining two consecutive wickets
in his third over, and some excellent fielding by the Clackmannan team
the wickets began to tumble with Alamgir taking a superb diving catch
off the bowling of Steve Jelfs.
Despite their best efforts and a score of 52 not out by Mitchell, Kinross
were unable to match Clackmannn’s score and tumbled to 133 all
out with Jahangir taking their last wicket with a superb piece of spin
bowling, Clackmannan running out winners by 104 runs.
Man of the Match Keith Hefer for a well
crafted 94 and 3 wickets. D of the D? Captain Noor for taking the guy
off when on his hatrick ball and bringing him back to bowl FIFTEEN overs
later, to try for his hatrick. Well played guys, good spirit both sides,
no one moaning or dissing their team mates and it's
not often all eleven players get a bowl!! ........webmaster
