Date 3/7/2010 Venue The Arns Result Lost Weather Sunny

By Scott Malcolmson

Clackmannan welcomed Dunfermline to the Arns looking to gain some revenge for a loss earlier in the season.  Skipper Bryant-Nichols who was looking to rest a side strain this weekend was called into action with Smith delayed in Cuba and Passe a late promotion to the first team. Dunfermline won the toss and elected to bowl.
Sultan and Hutchison opened the batting and took the game to the opposition and advanced the score to 41 before Sultan was bowled for 19 in the 7th over. Band joined Hutchison and held up one end while Hutchison scored at the other. Band departed for 7 off a brilliant catch at mid wicket. Hutchison followed 2 overs later caught at mid on for a battling 30. Ali and Bryant-Nichols were looking to steady the ship but the former chipped straight to mid on leaving Clackmannan in trouble at 68 for 4 after 20 overs. Clackmannan hopes were now resting on Bryant-Nichols who has been a game saver on many an occasion this season.
Malcolmson joined the skipper at the crease and was greeted with instructions of lets bat through to the end. Unbelievably one ball later Bryant-Nichols went for the big one and was well caught on the boundary. Campbell was next in and was next out caught at point. Cox in his first game of the season didn’t miss a beat. While Malcolmson was holding one end Cox was putting the bowling to the sword at the other end. The pair put on 24 before Malcolmson departed leaving Clackmannan on 95 for 7 and in big trouble.  Cox was bowled for 15 and Dunfermline wrapped up the innings in the 32nd over with Clackmannan on 103.
After tea Clackmannan took to the field needing wickets quickly. Bryant-Nichols took the bull by the horns and decided to open the bowling at the railway end with Kay opening at the road end. Bryant-Nichols bowled well and was creating chances but unfortunately none went to hand. Kay was faring better at the other end and struck in the 4th over bowling Brenkel for 15. Campbell replaced the skipper but wasn’t having much luck with 5 wides in his 3 over spell. Ahmed replaced Kay and struck in his 2nd over trapping Gibson lbw for 18. Dunfermline were well on their way and despite Sultan getting Westgarth caught by Campbell for 16 a 7 wicket  victory was achieved in the 24th over.
This was a poor effort from a depleted Clackmannan team who were outplayed in all aspects of the game. Next week Clackmannan welcome Heriots 4 to the Arns.
