Match Report

This was the first 1st XI game at the Arns for more than a year but the result was nothing to celebrate. Clackmmannan were beaten in a low scoring game which might have been closer with a league umpire oficiating. Greg Jones, with typical Australian reserve, got off the mark with a six in the first over but in typical Clackmannan fashion the first wicket fell in the fourth over. The first of wicketkeeper Javeed's five catches. Greg Jones returned to the pavilion having made a useful 27 in the 26th over with the score on 61. Neil Ramsay grafted on, losing partners with some regularity until he was caught for 21. From this point the scorers were kept busy, but not marking off runs. Clackmannan all out for 89 in 47 overs. As things were to work out Edinburgh were not to need the extra three overs gifted by the Clackmannan side. Edinburgh struggled with the bat, Javed Raja being the only player to top double figures with 56. Everyone, that is except our friend Mr Extra's who this week scored 18. Nine no balls and seven wides!! Without this and the dubious application of the laws on LBW and runouts this could have been a different game. What made the real difference was seen in the bowling averages for runs per wicker and runs per over, the Edinburgh bowling was more economical on a bowlers wicket.
