Match Report

What should have been a good day for cricket didn't get off to the best of starts when a couple of the "experienced" players, who should know better, didn't turn up until 15 minutes before the start. Things went downhill from there. Fauldhouse batted first and made 27 before the first wicket fell in the 5th over. The majority of the Fauldhouse batsmen coped well with the Clackmannan bowling, only four batsmen (including numbers 9 and 10) failing to hit the boundary at some time in their innings. Top scorers for Fauldhouse Abbas (84) and D W Allan (48) with again, extras for Clackmannan an incredible 42 and third highest scorer. Final score Fauldhouse 250 for 8 in 50 overs. Clackmannan opened with Greg Jones and Neil Ramsay, only for Greg to be ajudged LBW off the third ball in the first over. Wickets fell regularily every three to four overs from that point until the miserable total of 51 all out had been reached. Ash Rasul top scored with 11 and was dismissed by a rather wooden LBW decision. None of the other Clackmannan players breached the double figures datum, only one other player scored a boundary. The bulk of the damage was done by the Fauldhouse professional who followed up his top scoring innings with a haul of 8 wickets for 16 runs in 12.3 overs at an economy rate of 1.3. The economy rate of his two supporting bowlers at 2.5 to 3 runs per over could only be compared to two of the Clackmannan bowlers Friedlander (2.67) and Ramsay (3.83).

That something is going seriously wrong at Clackmannan County is obvious from the 9th place in the league. The fielding which has been a positive aspect of the sides performance over the last three years shows a lack of confidence, as does the batting. The bowling at the moment lacks penetration and accuracy. No team can afford to give away the number of no balls and wides this side have been guilt of this year.To avoid the drop, the confidence of the side needs to increase, hopefully this can be achieved and the underperformance of the team reversed.
