Match Report Clackmannan County travelled to Newfield in Edinburgh to play Grange 3. The Edinburgh side won the toss and elected to bat, their openers Pollock and DeBouley, started well, taking nine runs of the first Clackmannan over. The Clackmannan opening bowlers, Zahid Hussain and Matthew Booth, however soon settled into their task and in the seventh over had Pollock returning to the portacabin, bowled Hussain for 14 runs. With 23 on the board this looked like a timely breakthrough for Clackmannan. However Andrew Ligertwood and DeBouley produced a partnership which took the score onto 107 for the fall of the next wicket with 33 overs gone. Ligertwoods wicket, LBW for 52, fell to Tipu Sultan, playing his first game since his return from holiday. Forrest joined DeBouley and made 9 before being caught in the covers by Gordon Oliver off David Henderson, with the score on 129. Booth in the first over of his second spell had DeBouley caught by Tipo Sultan for 52 to make Grange 160 for 4 in the 45th over. By the end of the Grange innings, Moran had been bowled by Sultan for 7 and Brock had scored 9 before Sultan pulled off another catch to add to Booths tally. The final score Grange 186 for 6 in fifty overs. A reasonable target on a pitch that had had the benefit of being covered to protect it from the worst the elements could do over the previous few days. Gordon Oliver took the unusual step of opening the innings with himself and son Alan, but the gambol did not pay off as young Alan was bowled by Banks for nothing, with the score on 2. Alan Oliver was replaced by another left hander, Richard Passe, fresh from his success opening the batting for the second team. The partnership did not survive past the fourteenth over when Gordon Oliver was bowled by a beautiful yorker from Moran for 4 runs. With the score on 20 for 2, Clackmannan had a lot to do. Passe only survived another four overs before he misjudged a ball from Moran and was bowled for 10. Tipo Sultan who had been attempting to move the score along was joined by James Couper and this pair put on 37 runs before Sultan was bowled for 44 valuable runs. Wicketkeeper Jeff Thomas was next at the crease and played a supporting role to Couper as the youngster moved the score along gradually. Thomas was eventually caught after making 4 runs with the score on 81 in the 35th over. Joined by Zahid Hussain the new batting partnership took the score past the hundred mark before Couper was eventually bowled for 20 runs. Hussain and his opening bowling partner, Matthew Booth then came together, but before they could settle into a partnership, Hussain was bowled for a useful 17 runs by Banks, in the second over of the Grange youngsters second spell. Kash Ali produced his usual blistering short innings scoring 15, including a four and a six in the four overs he was at the crease. Late replacement, young Graham Oliver made one run before being run out. David Henderson, batting out of position at number eleven, and Booth saw out the over for Clackmannan to finish on 138 for 9 at the end of the fifty overs, some 49 runs short of the target. All credit to Clackmannan's young side for sticking to their task but with six of the side under 17 it was always going to be a difficult task. Next weeks game, the final home game of the season is against Marchmont.
