| Match Report After the flooding at the Arns midweek play was doubtful right up to Saturday morning. The Clackmannan County side entered the game with the, by now, customary two call offs on Saturday morning. Clackmannan batted first Gordon Oliver, and Zahid Hussain opened. First ball of the third over Hussain was gone caught by Cruickshank off Robin Hiley, for a duck. Gordon Oliver, after last weeks success with the bat, becamethe first person in the East District league to score more than 500 runs this season. An excellent feat borne of hard work and dedication to improving his batting skills. This week however he could only add 3 runs to that total, caught by Leggat off Bell. Ash Rasul, newly returned from the Middle East, did not trouble the scorers, it was down to Mark Cunningham and Mahendra Patel to ease the score along. Patel was bowled by Howell for 16, Cunningham was LBW bowled Howell for 28. None of the other Clackmannan batsmen could conjure up double figures. The whole sorry tale ended with Clackmannan all out for 72 in 36.3 overs. Having posted a low score the Clackmannan captain decided to use accuracy rather than pace to open the innings and the unenviable job was given to Mahendra Patel and Mark Cunningham. Haddington opened with Robin Hiley and Peter Talbot and after being held to no runs for the first four overs, scored 12 off the next two. Talbot was bowled by Patel in the next over for 6. Ian Jarvis survived for another five overs before being caught by Gordon Oliver off Cunningham for 3. This brought Alan Cruickshank to the crease and he and Hiley took the game away from the home side. The Haddington side overtook the Clackmannan score for the loss of two wickets, their final total 75 in 32.2 overs. Robin Hiley not out on 38 and Alan Cruickshank not out 18. Another Clackmannan batting collapse, giving the bowlers nothing to bowl at. In a game that was important for the improvement of the clubs self respect there was little which could be seen as positive. Next week the 1st XI travel to Edinburgh to play Grange 3's. |
