Match Report

Clackmannan County 1st XI travelled to Edinburgh to play top of the table Heriot FP's 2nd XI. A couple of late changes to the Clackmannan side for a game that was crucial to the teams survival in the first division.

Like their equally fortunate second string Clackmannan were destined to spend a long hot afternoon in the field. Clackmannnan opened the bowling with Matt Friedlander, just returned from injury and Fouad Chaudhry. The early breakthrough was on both Ross and Hoffmann back in the pavilion for 8 and 5 respectively. Friedlander was showing signs of the benefits of physiotherapy, bowling with pace and lift, giving the batsmen problems while looking for an opening. Opener McAndrew however, had a different script in mind as he crafted 52 before being caught by Zahid Hussain of Chaudhry. From this point it was famine or feast for the Alloa side. Two batsmen out for ducks but all the rest of the batsmen in double figures. A late order 40 by Wallace taking the home side to 242 for 8 in the 50 overs. He was unfortunate not to be second top scorer, being beaten into third place by Mr Extra's in sparkling form with 43.

Clackmannan began the reply with Khalid Ali and Ash Rasul. Rasul did not stay long before being caught behind in the sixth over for 15 with 29 runs on the board. Ali scored 25 before his removal in the thirteenth over with the total on 83. Greg Jones continuing last weeks return to form batted in sparkling fashion before being finally caught for 70. Unfortunately the rest of the side were unable to supply the level of commitment needed to support him, numbers four to eleven only summing 17 runs among them. Oh! dear, relegation now a reality the whole side out for 145 in 32 overs.
