Match Report A fine sunny day at the Arns and the Clackmannan County 1st team are hosts to Holy Cross. The Edinburgh side paid their last visit to the Arns when both teams were in division 1 and at that time Holy Cross proved to be a well balanced side coping well in that league without a professional player to assist them. This time neither team has a professional and the breadth of experience favoured Holy Cross. Holy Cross took first strike and batted on the first grass wicket of the season at the Arns in this competition. Clackmannan Captain Ash Rasul changed the opening bowling partnership from last weeks game bringing on Chris Harney as a foil to strike bowler Matthew Booth. The partnership worked for the captain when in the sixth over Keith Fraser was caught by Rasul off Harney for 4. One for eleven and a good start for the Alloa side. In the following over Booth had Dougie Russell LBW for 11, with the score standing at 2 for 17. The Holy Cross side showed their experience by working away at the bowling, slowly pushing the score along until in the eighteenth over with 63 on the scoreboard, Anzelm Cydzik was LBW to Mohammed Quasim for 19. Then the game swung back in favour of the home side when Quasim bowled Bates and Dannreuther both for nought, 76 for 5 wickets with almost half the overs gone. Holy Cross however rallied again and fine knocks by Bonfield (46), Quinn (46) and Pickering (22) saw the Edinburgh side through to 164 all out in the forty seventh over. For Clackmannan, bowling honours went to Mohammed Quasim with 6 wickets for 36 in 10.4 overs.

The Clackmannan innings started with yet another opening combination this time the captain elected himself to the top of the order. His partner Tipu Sultan showed unaccustomed respect to an accurate opening attack, but kept the score board ticking over while his opening partner was becalmed at the other end. After 7 overs Sultan was caught by Quinn off Bonfield for 26. From this point onwards a steady steam of Clackmannan batsmen made their way to and from the wicket, adding little to the score. Apart from Gordon Oliver (12) none of the batsmen made double figures and the innings closed with Clackmannan all out for 76 made in a little over 33 overs. Holy Cross proved they have the experience both in batting and bowling which the Clackmannan side can only aspire to.

From one point of view the game is in good hands, Sandy Scotland should have no fears about umpires for the future, there were plenty "umpiring" contenders in this game.
