Match Report

Another match which should have been played at the Arns moved because of the state of the outfield. This required an early start for the trip to Irvine. Irvine won the toss and batted the car lagged Alloa side had no answer the the opening partnership of overseas amatuer Sharp and wicketkeeper Giddings. Eighty on the board for the first wicket. Giddings crafted a well crafted 112 to set the foundation for a solid batting performance for Irvine. The most successful of the Clackmannan bowlers was Ash Rasul with three for 27 off 10 overs. Clackmannan got off to a reasonable start with 43 runs being scored before the first wicket fell in the ninth over. By the 25th over the score was 5 wickets down for 93 in an hour annd a half. The remaining wickets fell for a further 20 runs, the last five wickets falling within the hour. The long boundary on one side (around 85 yards) gave the Alloa team something to contemplate, the fielding was a trifle lackadaisical but Scott Malcolmson produced yet another catch of the match. The teams lay off for bad weather seems to have unsettled the confidence of the players so the feeling was that that they let the game slip away from them and they should have done better. Better luck next time guys.
