Match Report The Clackmannan County 2nd team travelled to Edinburgh avoiding all the known travel hazards across the River Forth only to come unstuck on the hazard of forgetfulness. Once they had picked up the match ball and the score book, they made their way to Roseburn Park in Edinburgh. Roseburn Park is acting as a temporary home for Carlton 3 while their pavilion is refurbished. The Clackmannan side fielded first, with the now regular opening attack of Neil Ramsay and Muktar Ahmed taking first strike at the Carlton opening batsmen. Ramsay bowling with pace and accuracy took the first wicket, a peach of a ball which knocked back the forresters off stump. the score 20 for 1 in the eightth over. From this point on things did not go Clackmannans way. The next wicket fell at 126 with 23 overs on the board. Captain Scott Malcolmson had tried to ring the changes to exact a breaktrough but it was not until Noor Jhangirs second over that the partnership was broken. Stephens Bowled Jhangir for 67 and Carlton firmly in the driving seat. Another 4 overs and a bowling change later and Neil Ramsay in the second over of his second spell removed the other half of the troublesome partnership, Scott bowled Ramsay for 60. The Alloa sides problems were not over yet the incoming batsmen Hilton and McKay set about the county attack with a will and the 200 mark had been passed before the partnership was broken, Dean caught off the bowling of Ahmed. With the score on 245 Ahmed struck again, this time Hilton bowled Ahmed for 64. More changes in the bowling brought on Alison Ramsay and a return of Alan Oliver both repaid their captains faith by taking a wicket but by the time the 45 overs were bowled out the score was 261 for 8 wickets. Not for the first time this season the young clackmannan side had a large total to overcome. A change in the opening lineup for the 2nds saw Alan Oliver and the veteran Neil Tranter paired to take on the Carlton opening attack. by the fourth over Oliver was back in the pavilion, followed in the 6th over by Jhangir, in the 7th by Malcolmson and the 8th by Tranter. Neil Ramsay follwed in the 13th with the score on 17 for 5. The rot was stopped by Ian Davies and Alison Ramsay who put on 40 runs for the next wicket, Davies caught off Sinclair for 15. At the other end Alison Ramsay was applying her usual finesse to belt the ball all over the ground, hwever her spell in the sunshine came to a quick finale caught off Lewis for 25. From there the game was a foregone conclusion and the Clackmanan innings came to a close with 76 on the board with only 28 overs gone. Not the second elevens finest hour but there is always next week, when the seconds are at home to Cramond 2nd XI.
