| Match Report The Clackmannan County 2nd XI game against Cramond seconds was played at the Arns on a wicket which had been used on the previous Sunday and had seen more than 400 runs scored on it. The vagaries of the weather in the intervening week and the absence of covers for the wicket produced a much more challenging looking strip. Scott Malcolmson won the toss and decided to bat. Clackmannan opened with the two Neil's, Ramsay and Tranter to the bowling of Dharmesh Shah and Rajnish Singh. The Clackmannan pair got off to a quiet start, but by clever working of the bowling, pushing single round the wicket, they saw off the opening bowlers. By the end of the thirteenth over they had scored 40 without loss. The change of bowlers proved to be a master stroke by Ric Finc the Cramond captain. Steven Roberts was brought on to bowl in place of the accurate Shah and after bowling a no ball proceeded to encourage Tranter to throw his wicket away next ball. Tranter(16) caught, lobbing the ball to midwicket, where Shah comfortably took an easy catch, first wicket down for 50. Roberts then bowled another no ball which Graham Bayes hit for two. Off the next ball Bayes prodded the ball for what should have been an easy two. However some poor calling saw Ramsay sent scampering back but failing to make his ground, run out for 24. Roberts only over of the match saw him bowl three no balls and remove both of the top Clackmannan bats. Finc immediately brought back Shah and almost immediately he changed the face of the game. After a stay at the crease of three overs Bayes played an injudicious shot and was bowled for 9 off D'Sousa's last ball of the over. In his second over back Shah had Ian Davies LBW, playing across the line just one time too many. Davies had not looked comfortable and he was to be the first of many. Alison Ramsay was bowled the very next ball and from that point Shah had a progression of Clackmanan batsmen coming and going without adding to their personal tally. The bowler finished with 6 wickets for 23 runs in 12.2 overs. Only the top two batsmen made double figures and third top scorer was extras with 15. Clackmannan had gone from 50 for none to seventy seven all out without completing enough overs to allow a break for drinks. All out in 26.2 overs. Tea was taken at 3.15pm after which Cramond pair Steven Roberts and Rajnish Singh took on the Clackmannan opening attack of Neil Ramsay and Graham Bayes. Singh started with a will and soon had the scoreboard ticking over, he was dropped off a straightforward catch when he had scored 18 but fortunately the mistake was not all that costly when he was bowled the next over by Ramsay for 20. One for 24 in the fifth over. Ramsay was replaced by David Henderson, playing his first game of the season and he and Bayes put a brake on the run scoring for a while. However Roberts was by now beginning to see the ball better and ably abetted by Vimal D'Sousa soon began to take charge of the game. An ability to keep the runs down was never going to be enough and even a late bowling change bringing on young Graham Oliver made no difference to the final result. Cramond won scoring the required 78 for the loss of one wicket in 22.4 overs, Roberts 24 and D'Sousa 28. A lot to be taken from the game for the Clackmannan side in all its aspects with the word improve as a prefix to all sections. Put it down to a bad day at the office, turn up to practice to try and make it better. Next Game is against Mussellburgh at Mussellburgh on Saturday 19th June. | ||||||||||||||||
