Match Report The Clackmannan second eleven played host to Fauldhouse seconds at the Arns on Saturday. After the havoc created by the thunderstorm on Tuesday evening the game was played on the artificial wicket. Fauldhouse took first strike against the opening Clackmannan attack of Neil Ramsay and Ajaz Khan. Rob Mildrem, who started his cricketing day in Helsinki at 4am found himself, two plane changes later opening the batting with partner Steven McIlouff. The score was building slowly at around two runs per over before McIlouff was bowled by Ramsay for 8 with the score on 24. Mildrem was joined at the wicket by James Law and between them took the score to 67 for the second wicket. Law run out by a cracking throw by Alison Ramsay from deep mid off. Under 16 Michael Kelly couldn't get off the mark and was bowled lifting his head to a slower ball by Clackmannan under 16 Alistair Band. Good to see both teams having the courage to give the younger players a chance to compete not just make up the numbers. Ritchie Doonan another under 16 joined Mildrem at the crease and proceeded to bat with maturity. Mildrem eventually succumbed to young Graham Olivers spin when the bails were removed by Richard Passe, stumped for an excellent 63. Doonan(41) picked up the mantle of scoring and ably partnered by Kevin Black(27) took the score to a total of 201 for 4 in the 45 overs. The Clackmannan bowlers found it difficult to maintain line and length, however a total of 26 wides in an innings is a self inflicted injury few sides can overcome. The Clackmannan side suffered from some poor ground fielding and too many dropped catches, leaving them with a lot to do to win the game. The Clackmannan captain Scott Malcolmson opened with Neil Ramsay and Alan Oliver but their stay together at the crease was relatively short lived. Oliver bowled by Law after a quick 8 with the score on 15 and 5 overs gone. Ramsay was joined by Ian Davies and the score moved along to 44 before Ramsay sold out to Doonan for 11 runs in the twenty first over. Greg Shaw playing his first game of the season did not stand on ceremony and tonked his first and second ball for four. Davies lost out competing for a run and was run out for twelve. Richard Passe provided support for Shaw until Shaw was out caught off Black for 27 with the hundred total in sight. Passe was accompanied by a succession of partners but by now it was obvious that overtaking the Fauldhouse total was not to be. The Clackmannan innings closed on 117 for 9 of 45 overs. A good win for Fauldhouse a great learning experience for the Clackmannan side. A good game of cricket played in excellent spirit.
