Match Report After a delayed start due to the weather, which was cold, wet, windy and miserable and a misunderstanding about the umpires the game eventually got under way. Clackmannan in their usual fashion started with two replacement players, one for a late call off the other with a broken down car. However, this proved to be a silver linning for the juniors called in at the last minute, the chance to prove themselves in the senior team. Scott Malcolmson won the toss and elected to give Kismet first strike. With opening bowler Muktar Ahmed stuck in Stirling, Malcolmson gave fourteen year old Alistair Band the opportunity to join Neil Ramsay in opening the bowling. It was Ramsay who struck first however, in his opening over he bowled Sajid Saeed with an absolute Jaffa of a delivery, swinging in to knock back the batsmans off stump. Sohail Ali joined Ajaz Mohammed at the crease and they steadied the innings, batting sensibly, picking up runs and keeping the scoreboard ticking over. The two bowlers, struggling against the strong wind and wet ball were building up a fair collection of wides and no balls but were sticking manfully to their task. Kashif Ali replaced Band and after a shaky start began to bowl well. In his fourth over he picked up the wicket of Mohammed, leg before wicket for 5 with the score on 39. The third wicket fell to an excellent direct hit by Captain Malcolmson, runing out Ali for 14 with the total on 43 and ending what was looking to be a promising partnership. Ashgar Ali and Zahid Naseem came together and proceeded to construct a worthwhile partnership. The partnership was eventually broken when Naseem was caught by Malcolmson attempting to hit Oliver to the boundary, for a useful 24 runs. Shortly after, the players retired to the pavilion as the rain came down in buckets. Tea was taken in the hope that, for once, the weather forcast might be correct. On the resart twelve year old Graham Oliver, showed a good understanding of the spinners art, bowling Ali round his legs for 16. An excellent wicket for the youngster, to bowl such an experience and on form batsman. This wicket seemed to lift young Graham to a new level as he beguiled the incoming batsmen. Spinning the ball square, young Oliver bowled his last six over for six runs, an excellent achivement. Not to be outdone, fellow junior Alistair Band, who had been brought on to bowl at the other end, was also bowling well. Alistair took 3 wickets in his second spell for 10 runs and played a big part in holding the final Kismet total to 131 all out in 37 overs. After a quick changeround the Clackmannan innings opened with Scott Malcolmson and Neil Ramsay, fresh from his success of taking the last Kismet wicket. The opening pair nudged the score along until in the eighth ove.r Malcolmson then mistimed a ball from thirteen year old opening bowler Safian Sharif to be caught by Sajid Saeed for 4. With the score on 10, Ian Davies joined a confident looking Ramsay and produced a mini partnership to take the score to 27 before Davies was caught by Zahid Naseem off Tahir Naseem for 3. Alison Ramsay joined her brother at the crease. Alison, attacking the ball from the start, helped the score along to 46 before skying the ball to fly slip where Zahid Naseem took another catch, this time off the bowling of Mohammed. Alison, out for eight. Kash Ali, promoted to number 5, returned to the pavilion in the same over without adding to the score. Bob Ramsay joined his son, but not for long, returning to the pavilion some three overs later adjudged caught behind by Ashgar Ali off Bobbie Arhman for 2. Graham Oliver(2) supported Neil Ramsay well but, when the ninteen year old was finally trapped LBW to an excellent ball from Saeed, the result had become a foregone conclusion. Greig Taylor (2) batted sensibly for his runs but fell to another swinging ball from Saeed. Taylor was closely followed by Gordon McNee, who was unable to add, with the bat, to his sparkling form in the field. Alistair Band failed to open his account before being bowled by Saeed. The Clackmannan innings closed for 71 in 31.4 overs. Special mention must be made of late substitute, eleven year old, Scott King who batted tenatiously for the last few overs, while wickets fell at the other end. Clackmannan were beaten by a much better side, but the club can take heart at the way the junior players bowled and fielded and the hope that this brings for the future. A good competitive game played on the field in excellent spirit and nice to see both sides giving the junior players a worthwhile part to play. As for the weather, eventually the forcast came good, the game ended in sunshine. The 2nd XI next week travel along to Fife to Charlestown to play Broomhall.
