| Match Report The Clackmannan County 2nd eleven played the always friendly and competitive Morton cricket club on Saturday. Overnight rain once again made the use of the artificial surface at the Arns a necessity. Morton took first strike, opening with George Donald and Graeme Turton against the Clackmannnan attack of brother and sister Neil and Alison Ramsay. The Morton pair batted for eight overs and generated a total 31 before Donald fell victim to Alison Ramsay, bowled for 4. Andy Morrison joined Turton at the crease and these two kept the score ticking over until Alison Ramsay was replaced in the bowling attack by her father Bob. While lacking his daughters pace and accuracy, the old yin eventually surprised Turton with a ball which got close to the stumps and gave Jeff Thomas the chance of a stumping which was gladly accepted. Turton scored a valuable 40 in a partnership which took Morton on to 104 in the 23rd over. Alan Cunningham joined Morrison at the crease but the partnership was short lived as Morrison was stumped in the next over by Thomas off Bayes for 31. David Forbes joined Cunningham and another useful partnership developed the pair putting 141 on the board before Cunningham was caught by Malcolmson off Bayes for 27. Graham Kilgour came to the crease and set about the bowling to good effect. By the 38th over with the total on 183 Forbes skied the ball to deep mid off into the hands of Alison Ramsay. Forbes caught A Ramsay bowled Bayes for 22. Frank Bell (4) and Adam Grigg (4) played second fiddle to Kilgours lead as the Morton side split the 200 barrier. Kilgour finished not out on 62 with the final Morton total for the 45 overs being a hefty 231 for 7 wickets. Clackmannan began their innings with Neil Ramsay and Scott Malcolmson facing the pace attack of Kilgour and Grigg. The county pair began slowly against the accurate and incisive Morton attack but disaster struck in the eighth over when Ramsay spooned up a catch to Turton off Grigg, gone for 7. Malcolmson was joined by Graham Bayes and Bayes began in his usual fashion to push the ball into space and was looking set for another good innings. However after scoring a workmanlike 12 he sent a ball from Kilgour skywards to be gratefully snapped up by Turton at mid off. Jeff Thomas never looked comfortable against Adam Grigg and was out bowled playing inside a good length ball without scoring. Alison Ramsay joined her captain at the wicket but after scoring 4 was caught at cover off Frank Bell attempting to put the ball into orbit. Fourteen year old Greig Taylor understudied Malcolmson and the two batsmen took the score up to 56 before Taylor was caught at slip off Kilgour for 2. Bob Ramsay joined Malcolmson and this pairing took the score to 70 before Malcolmson was caught by Morrison off Bell for a hard won 29. Scott King, the eleven year old playing his first game for the seconds, got off the mark but before he could settle into his game was caught by Bell off Kinghorn for one. Seamus Ross also playing his first game was yorked by Kinghorn without troubling the scorers. Dan Smith came to the crease on the hatrick but the twelve year old, played out the over with confidence. Smith continued to support Ramsay's unconventional hitting until he eventually succumbed to Kinghorn, for one run, after batting for a valuable six overs. Eleven year old Blair Campbell came to the crease but survived but a few balls before he was bowled by another excellent yorker from Kinghorn. Clackmannanan all out for 91, with Bob Ramsay not out on 20. A match, unusual in the number of Ramsay's in evidence, not lease for the strange situation of there being two Robert Ramsay's in the game, one playing for Morton and the other "playing" for Clackmannan. An interesting game played in good spirit, the Clackmannan second team suffering from the clubs dearth of first team players, leading to enforced promotion of some second team regulars. The second team do not have a game this coming week, the scheduled game against Fauldhouse has been reorganized for later in the season because of the Fauldhouse clubs drainage works. | |||||||||||||||||
