| Report | |||||||||||||||
The start of this friendly game was delayed while the Edinburgh team did a sightseeing tour of the Stirling area. Captain Rasul "superman to the rescue" guided them to the Arns. "keep heading towards Stirling Castle"?? So the game started at 2.45 and it was decided to play 35 overs a side. Since it gets dark about ten thirty, it seemed like a good idea that the Edinburgh guys got home before they had to navigate in the dark. No doubt superman's directions would be "keep heading for Edinburgh Castle" otherwise known as the tenement on the hill. Edinburgh batted first, Matt Friedlander and Matthew Booth opened for Alloa and had the Edinburgh side 3 for 41 in twelve overs. Asad however kept his cool and crafted a thoughtful 88 before falling LBW to Couper. Other scorers were Raja with 70 and Navid with 29. Best of the bowlers was, well none really they were all carted about the park as Edinburgh finished on 235 for 4 in 35 overs. Alloa batted after tea and saw a return to the Arns of Mark Cunningham, opening with Greg Jones. The first wicket fell at 18 with Mark being caught in his usual place on the boundary. Greg went on to make 54 before being caught in a similar position. Ash Rasul sporting his new "nae hair" style sweated his way to 56 with only one four and two pint glasses of water. Madasar Javed's appearance at the crease signalled a quick fire 53 including six 4's and one 6. The total was within reach and it was left to the Oliver brothers to charge to the finishing line. With twelve to get from the last ball Graham was run out valiantly going for the runs. A special mention to Matthew Booth who worked hard at winter nets improving his batting. He forget all he had learned took a head up howf at the ball and was bowled. That in itself was bad enough but the bowler was Booger Mearns, Matthews close mate, who was making an appearance for Edinburgh. Will Matthew ever hear the end of this? Will it be worth a special gong at the end of season awards ceremony? A game lost but 459 runs scored on the strip in 70 overs should help Hendo come to terms with his grass pitch being used for a friendly.
