Match Report

The Alloa XI travelled to Falkland on a hot sunny Sunday. As is our want the team was made up of some seniors and some juniors, with the gaining of experience the name of the game. Falkland won the toss and decided to bat. Well in 25oC its better to bat than to field. Falkland got off to a good start with May making 24 before being run out, while Jackson bashed away at the other end. Caldwell appeared and carried the score along, being out for 46 caught and bowled by the Oliver brothers Graham( the catcher) and Alan, while Jackson was bashing away at the other end. Jackson eventually retired for 100 before suffering heatstroke or terminal boredom. After removing Manson for 8, Jackman for 11and Watson by our old friend Retired, Lindsay(23) and Henderson(4) closed the innings for Falkland 256 for 4 in 40 overs. Wickets for the Alloa bowlers, Fouad Chaudhry 1 for 37 and Alan Oliver 2 for 54.

The Alloa innings opened with Alan Oliver and Zahid Rasul. On the first ball of the second over Alan howked at a ball outside off stump and was caught in the slips 2 wickets 1 run, not the best of starts chasing 256. The Rasul brothers were together at the crease, but not for long, Zahid, bowled by Hamilton for 2. Ash batting with his usual short game fervour got out for a measly 19. Fouad Chaudhry scored a quick 32 including six boundaries before heading back to the cool of the pavilion. Gordon Oliver making up for yesterdays low scoring run out scored a solid, coaches 52, to show the juniors how it should be done. Matthew Booth and Douglas Mearns made 100 between them Matthew made 10, 0 for Douglas. It took eleven year old Dan Smith to follow Gordon the coaches batting example to score a fine 20 before being bowled. U12 Juniors Graham Oliver made 7 and Daniel Love was not out 6, both scoring 4's. Thats the way to do it! The final Alloa Total 194 for 10 in 38 overs.

An enjoyable game for all present and good experience for the youngsters.
