Match Report Clackmannan made the journey to Edinburgh to play Stewarts Melville Royal High on a beautiful sunny day. The game was played on the artificial surface at Inverleith, Clackmannan captain Ash Rasul won the toss and decided to bat. The innings began with a new partnership, James Mariner and Zahid Hussain, Zahid more accustomed to opening the bowling rather than the batting. The county got off to a reasonable start, the partnership putting on 20 runs in 8 overs before Hussain was adjudged leg before wicket to Mitchell for 7. From this point on runs seemed to be difficult to come by. Wickets fell at a rate of one every five overs with only a handful of runs coming from the bat for each wicket. Only young Queen Victoria schoolboy James Mariner managed to attain double figures. His 31 runs showed a quality and maturity which belies his age, he is certain to be an asset to the side this season. The laurels for top scorer however were not to be his, top scorer in this innings were extras with a total of 34 including a massive 12 wides and 11 no balls. No comfort for the Clackmannan side who, were all out for 93 runs in 32 overs. The bulk of the damage was done to the Clackmannan batting by Crispin who took 5 wickets for 16 runs in 8 overs. The Clackmannan side would need a similar effort from at least one of their bowlers if they were to pull this game out of the fire. The SMRH innings began with the usual opening bowling attack of Zahid Hussain and Matthew Booth. Hussain after some success with the bat was to find it was not his day with the ball, removed from the attack after given away 10 runs from his first over. Booth was to suffer the same sort of fate, four overs gone 28 on the board and both opening bowlers removed from the attack, panic had set in. The SMRH openers had taken the score on to 44 before Farquarson was caught brilliantly by Rasul at leg slip off Kasin for 23. Bowling changes were coming thick and fast but Clackmannan could not stem the tide of runs. The Clackmannan total was overtaken in the twenty third over when Parker smashed a four off spinner Shahad Azhar. Final total for SMRH 97 for 3 wickets. Another defeat for the County side another case of what might have been. This game was a bit of a curates egg for Clackmannan, some disappointments but some promising signs which will come to fruition in the future, hopefully the near future.
