| On Saturday Clackmannans first eleven
took on Murrayfield DAFS II at the Arns. With Will Kay replacing Tipu Sultan,
the only change from last week’s victory. Captain Graeme Anderson
won the toss and decided to bat first. Openers Alan and Gordon Oliver got
off to a decent start, against some tight bowling, progressing the score
to 30 off 7 overs before Gordon Oliver was caught at mid off. Craig Black
followed soon after, brilliantly caught and bowled, without troubling the
scorers. The two top scores from last week, were both back in the pavilion
with the score less than 40. Things got worse still when Alan Oliver was
caught behind, trying to pull. Clacks were reeling at 45 for 3, with only
12 overs gone. James Couper and Dan Smith then came to the rescue. With
some solid defence, good running and hitting the bad balls to the boundary,
they progressed the score to109. With Couper playing some terrific shots.
Smith was eventually bowled for 17, trying to guide the ball down to third
man, and Couper was caught a few overs later, with a well-made 51. Anderson
and Hooper then put on another useful partnership. Taking the score to 167,
before Hooper was trapped LBW for 28. The remaining batsmen then supported
their captain well. As Clackmannan finished on 214 for 8. With Anderson
finishing on 56 not out.
For the second week running the Clackmannans batsmen managed to post over 200. Which is a very good effort, especially as it has been different batsmen each week who have scored the majority of the runs. After the interval, the men from the wee county headed out to field. Looking for a good tight start, which would close the game off. This time, the counties openers were able to make the breakthrough early. And it was a stunning breakthrough at that. Alan Oliver taking a terrific catch, low down to his left off the bowling of black. With the score on 6 for 1. Matthew Booth then had the other opener trapped LBW in the 5th over, with only 9 runs on the board. Murrayfields number 3 batsmen then started to a bit of a come back, until Will Kay had him caught at square leg. Black then caught and bowled the number 4, with the score on 47. Kay followed this up, with two wickets in his next over. And Black sent the leg stump flying on the 4th ball of his next over. Clackmannan has picked up 4 wickets without a run being added. Murrayfield were 47 for 7 in the 15th Over. Some sensible batting from the Murrayfield tale, and some tiring bowlers, allowed them to progress the score 74. Before Jhangir brilliantly ran out their number 9, and Alan Oliver deceived the number 10 to be out LBW. When Matthew Booth bowled the number 11 in the 36th Over, it was all over. Murrayfield could only muster 113. Including 23 extras. But a win by 101 runs was a terrific result for the home side. Next week they travel to Edinburgh, to take on the university staff, hoping to continue the winning streak. Report by - Ando |
