On Saturday the first eleven travelled to Peffermill in Edinburgh to
take on Edinburgh University Staff. Having lost the toss, Clackmannan
were invited to bat first, with openers Graeme Anderson and Geoff Logan
looking to get a good start.
After taking the first few overs to adjust to the wicket, and size up
the bowlers it wasn’t long until the duo were racing along, with
some good running and nice boundaries.
A light drizzle had started after the first few overs and continued into
the 12th over when the effects started to take effect on the wicket,
with two daisy cutters passing outside the off stump of Anderson. The
following over Logan (20) was not so lucky as a short pitched delivery
kept low and crashed into his pads. LBW was the result which introduced
Craig Black into the game. He managed to work a single before Anderson
(31) suffered the same fate as Logan.
Edinburgh University Staff then left the field as the rain got slightly
heavier. The Clackmannan players hung around for around an hour, as the
weather teased them occasionally clearing up, only to come back with
heavier rain. Eventually a heavy downpour put to bed any hopes of the
game restarting, and the match was abandoned. A huge disappointment for
the County men, who were well placed on 61 for 2 after 13 overs, with
the opening batsmen putting on yet another 50 partnership.
Next week Clackmannan take on 2nd place Kismet in a crucial match in
the promotion race.
